The Classification "U" states that the film is suitable
for those aged 4 and above and that the film should be set within a
positive morale framework. The film should not include any actions or behaviour
that may be classed as dangerous due to the fact the children are likely to
copy.
This film is suitable for general viewing but certain scenes may
be unsuitable for younger children. Similarly to "U" there should be
no actions or behaviour that are dangerous and could potentially be copied. The
film should not disturb children aged 8 or over but parents are advised to
think about the content and if it may affect your children.
12/12A states that the material showed is designed for those 12 and
above as the content may be unsuitable for those who are younger. However 12A
means that no one under twelve can see the movie without accompaniment from an
adult, in this circumstance the adult is deemed responsible for letting the
child see the movie.
Movies classified as 15 can only see by those 15 and above. This
is due to the strong violence, sex, nudity and language.
Movies classified as 18 can only be seen by those 18 and over. Due
to the fact the people viewing these products are classed as adults they are
free to choose their own entertainment. However there are certain exceptions such
as, where the material is in breach of the criminal law, where material or treatment
appears to the BBFC to risk harm to individuals or, through their behaviour to
society.
R18 are films only to be shown to those older than 18. These
movies can only be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only
in licensed sexshops.
The reason i chose to investigate the Classification system is that it gave me a better insight into the expectations of my audience and allowed me to have a clear understanding of what to include in my Trailer. |
